Katavi National Park is abundant and diverse, attracting nature enthusiasts and safari-goers. The park is home to large populations of elephants, hippos, buffalo herds, and crocodiles. It is also known for its predators, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas. Katavi offers a more secluded and off-the-beaten-path safari experience compared to other parks.

Mahale Mountains is home to a large population of wild chimpanzees, estimated to be around 1,000 individuals. Its a unique opportunity to track and observe these fascinating primates in their natural habitat.

Itinerary

  • Day 01: Arriving to Arusha - Tanzania
    Arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport, meet and greet our guide who take you to your Safari vehicle and transfer you to Arusha town. The Journey that takes us 1:30hrs, arriving to your Lodge in Arusha city check-in; followed by shortly brief about the safari then dinner and overnight at Legendary Lodge
  • Day 02: Fly from Arusha to Katavi National Park
    A flight of about 4 hours, with a refuel stop in Tabora before arriving in Katavi National Park. This flight really illustrates just how remote and untouched this part of Tanzania is. There is nothing but wilderness for miles as you fly over the country.
    A shared charter flight to Katavi National park operates only on Monday and Thursday of every week. As you arrive Katavi you will be picked up by our driver guide and transfer to your camp Chada Katavi Camp for check in and lunch. Afternoon game drive till evening when you will drive back to the camp for dinner and overnight.
  • Day 03-04: Drive & Walking Safari in Katavi National Park
    Katavi is one of the few true remaining great wildernesses of Eastern Africa. Vast savannah plains stretch into the distance and you are almost guaranteed not to bump into any tourists during your stay! "Lakes" Chada and Katavi provide watering holes for huge herds of savannah game including hundreds if not thousands of hippo, elephant, Buffalos, lion, leopard, crocs, etc.
    Katavi National Park offers a more secluded and off-the-beaten-path safari experience compared to other popular parks in Tanzania. To explore Katavi National Park, visitors can participate in game drives, guided walking safaris, and fly camping experiences. Overnight at Chada Katavi Camp
  • Day 05: Fly from the Katavi to Mahale National Park
    A short flight of 25 minutes, which takes you over the Mahale Mountains and lands on the banks of Lake Tanganyika. The arrival into Mahale is pretty unforgettable as you fly low over the mountains and land on the airstrip that sits right on the banks of Lake Tanganyika.
    When you arrive at Mahale airstrip our wonderful guides will meet you and take you by boat to Greystoke. This journey takes about an hour and a half and skims along the banks of the impossibly clear lake with the Mahale Mountains rising dramatically from the beach.
    On your arrival you will be welcomed with a drink and short brief about the lodge and followed by relaxation at the shore of Lake Tanganyika before dinner and overnight.
  • Day 06: Experience at Mahale Mountans
    The Mahale Mountains offer a unique and remote safari experience, combining breathtaking natural beauty with the opportunity to encounter chimpanzees and other wildlife in their natural habitat. It is a popular destination for nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, and adventurers seeking an off-the-beaten-path experience in Tanzania.
    The chimps that really inspire us. Time spent with them is time away from everything else that is ordinary. It is home to one of Tanzania's largest populations of wild chimpanzees, estimated to be around 1,000 individuals. The park is known for its chimpanzee trekking experiences, allowing visitors to observe and study these fascinating primates in their natural habitat.
    Hike the forest paths looking for all the other animals who quietly live here. Swim in pools up in mountain waterfalls, take a kayak out for a dawn paddle and enjoy the sunrise coming up over the mountains. Have sundowners on our old wooden dhow or just relax on the warm sands of the beach with a drink in hand.
  • Day 07: Fly back from Mahale Mountains to Arusha
    You will bid farewell to the team at Greystoke and head back to the airstrip by boat in time to catch your scheduled shared charter flight back to Arusha. This flight again stops in Tabora for a refuel stop and arrives in Arusha in the late afternoon, usually in time to connect with any International departures from Kilimanjaro International airport.
    Upon our arrival will depend with arrival time; We make a 15-minute drive by a private car to Sanaa, a local enterprise that employs people with physical disabilities. In this workshop, you will meet with locals, learn the basics of sign language, and see how these artisans come together to create unique, artisanal gifts. You may buy some to support them & after our visit, We will travel overland to Kilimanjaro International Airport, about a 1.5 hour drive. You’ll fly overnight back home
